The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) is a community-driven economic development program in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon. This program’s goal was to help small communities grow by making it easier for newcomers to settle. Smaller communities are defined as having a population of 50,000 or less and being located at least 75 kilometers from the core of a Census Metropolitan Area, or up to 200,000 people with the declaration of a remote area from larger cities.
